D2

Overview

D2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold-work tool steel with excellent abrasion and wear resistance. It is an air-hardening grade with relatively low dimensional distortion during hardening.

Heat Treatment

  • Soft annealing around 850–900°C
  • Austenitizing approximately 1010–1050°C
  • Air/gas or controlled quenching
  • Double tempering
  • Typical service hardness around 58–62 HRC

  • Hardened hardness: approximately 58–62 HRC
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • High compressive strength
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Moderate toughness
