Heat Treatment

  • Normalising
  • Stress relieving
  • Annealing
  • Case hardening can be applied to selected low-carbon grades
  • Generally not through-hardened like tool steels

Mechanical Properties

Typical values depend heavily on grade:

  • Tensile strength: approximately 370–550 MPa
  • Good ductility
  • Good weldability
  • Good machinability
  • Low-to-moderate strength

Equivalent Grades

“Mild steel” is a broad commercial description rather than one exact grade. Common specifications include:

  • IS 2062
  • ASTM A36
  • EN S235
  • SAE/AISI 1018-type grades

Applications

  • Fabrication
  • Structural components
  • Machine bases
  • Frames
  • Brackets
  • General engineering
  • Plates and support structures
  • Welded assemblies

Available Forms

  • Round bars
  • Flats
  • Plates
