Overview
1.2378 is a high-alloyed chromium-vanadium-molybdenum cold-work tool steel offering very high wear resistance and high cutting performance. SIHARD 2378, for example, is designated 1.2378 / X220CrVMo12-2 and is used for demanding cold-work applications.

Heat Treatment
- Soft annealing: approximately 820–850°C
- Stress relieving: approximately 650°C
- Hardening: approximately 1070–1100°C
- Air or warm-bath quenching
- Tempering according to required hardness
SIHARD 2378 data gives approximately 63–64 HRC after quenching.
