P20

Overview

P20 / 1.2311 is a pre-hardened plastic mould steel offering good machinability, toughness, polishability and dimensional stability. It is commonly supplied in the pre-hardened condition, reducing the need for additional heat treatment after machining.

Heat Treatment

  • Normally supplied quenched and tempered/pre-hardened.
  • Typical delivery hardness: approximately 280–325 HB.
  • Additional hardening can be performed when required.
  • Nitriding and surface treatments are possible.

Mechanical Properties

  • Delivery hardness: approximately 280–325 HB.
  • Equivalent tensile strength in tempered condition can be around 950–1100 MPa.
  • Good toughness.
  • Good machinability.
  • Good polishability.
